MOAM?

Man Or Astroman?

Very little time to post these days, but I wanted to share a nice find. Man Or Astroman were frequent visitors at John Peel's, and a great website has uploaded a great session from 1997. 5 Songs that include some of the best stuff they've ever put out (off their 1000x 10" and Made From Technitium). Right on!

Huggy Bear

Huggy Bear
Her Jazz (off Taking The Rough With The Smooch 10", Time Bomb, 1993)

Huggy Bear were a kick-ass band from England that got fairly "big" during the time of riot grrrl. Her Jazz was released on a single on Wiiija Records from London, and a compilation of their singles was released in Japan as a 10".

The reason I particularly like Huggy Bears is that their actually very powerful, political, rowdy and clever. Nice stuff.

A note about why I picked Her Jazz: It is indeed their most well known song, and probably "out there" already. I could have taken Teen Tighterns too, or Shaved Pussy Poetry, but I decided for Her Jazz because, hands down, it's just an incredible song. I think John Peel picked this as one of the best songs of 1993.

vbstv

VBSTV

You'll excuse my not-posting-old-records entry here, but I just watched a show called Soft Focus, a talkshow hosted by Ian Svenonius. The first guest is Ian Mackaye, and part 1 is online right now.

It's on vbs.tv, an online tv-project by the people behind Vice Magazine. The creative director is Spike Jonze (!).

This thing is like my personal wet-dream, only that I've never thought about it until now. Fucking watch it, this is gonna blow the backdoors off 2007.

Iceburn

Iceburn
Moon (off that 7" on Art Monk Construction, 1994)

This song is perhaps one of my favorite songs ever by any band. Iceburn were hard to place (and I like that), and were perhaps never part of hardcore as such anyway (I like that too), even though they've released on Victory and Revelation (the split 12" with Engine Kid is insane).

Moon is off their release on Art Monk, and simply put, it's jazz. Improv? I don't think this song is, but they certainly did improvise on other releases.

Please note, please appreciate, please MELT AWAY when you figure out the last 20 seconds of the song...it's a goddamn countdown. It never stops to blow my mind. Mathrock, anyone?
